I forget exactly what the fear was (we&#8217;d wake up on the LOST island?).<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/ggp\/id:i-ga-bd400-b-pp1-bf5-b2000-s1-h7-belec-p-btext\"><em>First Friday Briefing<\/em><\/a> (pictured) from the Georgia Department of Defense recounts the &#8220;sigh of relief&#8221; as all heck did not break loose upon the arrival of the year 2000.<\/p>\n<p>You can rewind an interesting piece of recent history using the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/ggp\/\">Georgia Government Publications<\/a> portal in the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/\">DLG<\/a>.\u00a0 You can read the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/ggp\/id:i-ga-bg600-b-ps1-be9-b1999-s3-h5a-belec-p-btext\">executive order<\/a> from Governor Roy Barnes that established Georgia&#8217;s Y2K Interagency Task Force. Review the<a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/cgi-bin\/govdimag.cgi?page=1&amp;path=dbs\/1998\/ga\/m300_pe6\/p1\/p4\/22_s2\/elec_p_btext.con\/\"> growing concern<\/a> in a 1998 article from the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/ggp\/id:i-ga-bm300-pe6-bp1-bp4-b22-s2-belec-p-btext\">State Personnel News<\/a> titled, &#8220;Are state computers going to crash January 1, 2000?&#8221; :<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Part of the problem is that over 50% of the software programs used by state government are over 11 years old and are obsolete. There aren\u2019t even programmers around who know them. (pg.5)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Or peruse <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/cgi-bin\/govdimag.cgi?page=1&amp;path=dbs\/1999\/ga\/p800\/_pm1\/1999\/y4\/elec_p_btext.con\/\">this memorandum<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/ggp\/id:s-ga-bp800-b-pm1-b1999-by4-belec-p-btext\">Public Service Commission<\/a> in which the &#8220;first electronic crisis of an automated society&#8221; leads to the conclusion of &#8220;four plausible scenarios: (I) &#8220;Crisis Avoided,&#8221; (II) &#8220;Much Ado About Nothing,&#8221; (III) &#8220;the Tempest in a Teapot,&#8221; and (IV) &#8220;Crisis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(You could also search the vast internet outside of the DLG for &#8220;Leonard Nimoy&#8221; and Y2K&#8230;but you didn&#8217;t hear it from me&#8230;but do it anyways.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Y2K&#8230;anyone?
