{"id":4408,"date":"2014-10-23T15:05:22","date_gmt":"2014-10-23T19:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/?p=4408"},"modified":"2014-11-10T13:42:15","modified_gmt":"2014-11-10T18:42:15","slug":"dpla-digitalnz-present-gif-it-up-an-international-gif-making-competition-october-13-december-1-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/?p=4408","title":{"rendered":"DPLA &#038; DigitalNZ present GIF IT UP: an international GIF-making competition, October 13 &#8211; December 1, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Digital Public Library of America and DigitalNZ are very excited to announce the launch of GIF IT UP, an international competition over the next six weeks to find the best GIFs reusing public domain and openly licensed digital video, images, text, and other material available via their search portals.<\/p>\n<p>The winners will have their work featured and celebrated online at the Public Domain Review and Smithsonian.com.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The GIF IT UP competition has six categories:<\/strong><br \/>\nAnimals<br \/>\nPlanes, trains, and other transport<br \/>\nNature and the environment<br \/>\nYour hometown, state, or province<br \/>\nWWI, 1914-1918<br \/>\nGIF using a stereoscopic image<\/p>\n<p>A winner will be selected in each of these categories and, if necessary, a winner will be awarded in two fields: use of an animated still public domain image, and use of video material.<\/p>\n<p>To view the competition\u2019s official homepage, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/dp.la\/info\/gif-it-up\/\">http:\/\/dp.la\/info\/gif-it-up\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judging:<\/strong> GIF IT UP will be co-judged by Adam Green, Editor of the Public Domain Review and by Brian Wolly, Digital Editor of Smithsonian.com. Entries will be judged on coherence with category theme, thoroughness of entry (correct link to source material and contextual information), creativity, and originality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gallery:<\/strong> All entries that meet the criteria outlined below in the Guidelines and Rules will be posted to the <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalnz-dpla.tumblr.com\/?utm_source=DPLA+News+List&amp;utm_campaign=e41c25cca4-GIF_IT_UP_Announcement10_10_2014&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1ee988aadc-e41c25cca4-60750417\">GIF IT UP Tumblr Gallery<\/a>.
