Note the GALILEO event flyers that you, too can print out for your own GALILEO birthday celebration.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Today, \u00a0we are celebrating GALILEO&#8217;s birthday!<\/p>\n<p>On this day (September 21) in 1995, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.galileo.usg.edu\/scholar\/ugalibs\/search\/\" target=\"_blank\">GALILEO<\/a>\u00a0went online. For twenty years, GALILEO has\u00a0worked to provide Georgia citizens with the best access to high quality educational resources regardless of their location or economic status.\u00a0Georgians of all stripes have used GALILEO in their homes, schools, and libraries for research and learning.\u00a0The Digital Library of Georgia is a GALILEO initiative based at the University of Georgia Libraries that collaborates with Georgia&#8217;s libraries, archives, museums, and other institutions of education and culture to provide access to key information resources on Georgia history, culture, and life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you aren&#8217;t a regular GALILEO user, here are a few good reasons to start:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>GALILEO is just as easy as Google, and in fact, it\u2019s better.\u00a0<\/strong>Searching GALILEO is just as simple, intuitive, and powerful as searching any commercial search engine, even\u00a0Google. The difference is that GALILEO provides information you can trust, without bias, advertising, scams or\u00a0viruses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If we have access to it, GALILEO can find it.<\/strong>\u00a0GALILEO searches much more than just scholarly databases. It searches your library\u2019s catalog, Georgia state\u00a0government documents and records, resources like Consumer Reports, and a huge collection of Georgia-specific\u00a0resources.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GALILEO can do a lot more than just find it for you.\u00a0<\/strong>With GALILEO, users can save, print or email results. GALILEO also provides citation information and resources to\u00a0make citing your research easy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GALILEO has been around for 20 years, pretty much since the start of the Internet.<\/strong>\u00a0GALILEO has an established history of providing the best resources available to the citizens of Georgia, and has\u00a0grown steadily in terms of materials as well as population covered. Every citizen of the state has access to GALILEO.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GALILEO has been around for 20 years, and isn\u2019t going anywhere.<\/strong>\u00a0Surviving 20 years in the Internet age is an accomplishment. GALILEO has shown it can adapt with the times\u00a0and technology, and will continue to serve Georgia for many more years to come. You don\u2019t have to worry about\u00a0GALILEO going away.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GALILEO goes with you.\u00a0<\/strong>Through their schools and libraries, anybody in Georgia can access GALILEO, from anywhere.
