Russell Building Special Collections Libraries<\/a> at the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>(From The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlestonsyllabussymposium.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Charleston Syllabus Symposium<\/a> web page):<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Inspired by the #CharlestonSyllabus hashtag campaign born in the wake of the June 17 massacre at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, this symposium is open to UGA students and faculty to come together to discuss the current state of race relations, racial violence and civil rights activism in the U.S. Featured speakers will include historians Chad Williams, Kidada E. Williams and Keisha N. Blain, editors of <em>Charleston Syllabus: Readings on Race, Racism, and Racial Violence<\/em>, an anthology recently published by the University of Georgia Press.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chad Williams<\/strong> is associate professor and chair of African and Afro-American studies at Brandeis University and is the author of <em>Torchbearers of Democracy: African American Soldiers in the World War I Era<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kidada E. Williams<\/strong> is associate professor of history at Wayne State University and the author of <em>They Left Great Marks on Me: African American Testimonies of Racial Violence from Emancipation to World War I<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keisha N. Blain<\/strong> is assistant professor of history at the University of Iowa.
