{"id":7339,"date":"2019-07-01T07:55:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T11:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/?p=7339"},"modified":"2019-06-28T14:32:13","modified_gmt":"2019-06-28T18:32:13","slug":"nge-dlg-exhibit-internship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/?p=7339","title":{"rendered":"NGE\/DLG Exhibit Internship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New Georgia Encyclopedia (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgiaencyclopedia.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">www.georgiaencyclopedia.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the Digital Library of Georgia (<a href=\"https:\/\/dlg.usg.edu\">https:\/\/dlg.usg.edu<\/a>) seek an intern for the creation of an online exhibit for the NGE\/DLG online exhibit site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NGE is an online encyclopedia that covers the history and culture of Georgia and is used extensively in schools and libraries around the state. It is a project of the Georgia Humanities Council, in partnership with the University of Georgia Press, GALILEO\/University System of Georgia, and the Office of the Governor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Digital Library of Georgia is a GALILEO initiative based at the University of Georgia Libraries that collaborates with Georgia\u2019s libraries, archives, museums, and other institutions of cultural heritage to provide free online access to the cultural and historical resources of the state of Georgia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Tasks and Responsibilities\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researching exhibit topic<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outlining of exhibit and selecting historical material for inclusion in online exhibit<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating a textual narrative for exhibit using Chicago Manual of Style<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Securing permissions or high-quality images from DLG partners for use in exhibit<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The exhibit should be drawn from materials available on the Digital Library of Georgia. Potential topics include, but are not limited to the following subjects: the Albany Movement, Music in Georgia, Urban Renewal in Atlanta, the Desegregation of Public Education, the 1906 Atlanta Race Riot, a Centennial Celebration of Women\u2019s Suffrage, Cotton Exhibitions in Georgia, Georgia Literary Voices, and Greetings from Georgia: A Postcard History of Tourism in Georgia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently enrolled in a graduate program or have recently completed work in such program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preferred disciplines include in American studies, history, public history, library\/archives\/museum studies, journalism, English.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent research skills and a solid understanding of historical methods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to problem solve creatively.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ability to work collaboratively and independently in a deadline-driven environment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent interpersonal skills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience with exhibit creation preferred.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience using content management systems preferred.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How to Apply<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please submit a cover letter, resume\/CV, and 3-5 page academic writing sample using the form found at <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/KWYntjAHXgfwk3cY7\">https:\/\/forms.gle\/KWYntjAHXgfwk3cY7<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Compensation<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>$20 per hour for 100 hours, 10-15 hours\/wk.; Work can either be performed at the DLG, University of Georgia\u2019s Main Library, Athens or at NGE, Georgia Humanities, Atlanta office.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New Georgia Encyclopedia (www.georgiaencyclopedia.org) and the Digital Library of Georgia (https:\/\/dlg.usg.edu) seek an intern for the creation of an online exhibit for the NGE\/DLG online exhibit site.
