The Athens-Clarke County Library Heritage Room was recently awarded the Common Heritage Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (press release available here –see pages 11 and 12 of the document for details).
This grant will be used to digitize privately held historical sources relating to the African American experience in Athens-Clarke County at a series of three day-long digitization events around the community.
Digitized material will be made available to the public with donor permission via the Athens-Clarke County Library’s partnership with the Digital Library of Georgia and the Digital Public Library of America.
The project also includes a public lecture series and tours of African American historic sites led by partner groups.
More information, including dates, will be announced soon!
